The Electro-Technical Calibration Division at the Central Electronics Centre (CEC), IIT Madras offers precision calibration services for a broad range of electrical and electronic instruments. All calibrations are traceable to national and international standards, and are performed using high-accuracy reference instruments like multiproduct calibrators, current coils, digital multimeters (up to 8.5-digit resolution), Decade Resistance box and Precision current shunt. Focusing on reliability and regulatory compliance, the division serves academic, industrial, and research stakeholders by maintaining high standards of uncertainty, repeatability, and traceability.

CEC’s Electro-Technical Calibration delivers high-accuracy, traceable measurements across voltage, current, power, resistance, frequency, and time domains.

CEC’s electro-technical calibration capabilities span AC and DC current (1 µA to 1000 A), AC and DC voltage (100 µV to 1000 V), power measurements (AC power from 1 W to 12 kW and DC power from 10 mW to 20 kW), and power factor calibration (0.2 PF to 1 PF). Resistance calibrations are supported across a wide range from 1 mΩ to 1 TΩ. The division also calibrates frequency devices (from 1 Hz to 500 MHz), timer(from 1s to 24 hrs) and provides comprehensive oscilloscope calibration of bandwidth up to 600 MHz, and time base resolution down to 2 ns. In Measure Mode, CEC simulates temperature sensor outputs and verifies the response of thermocouples and RTDs. CMC values range from ±0.016 °C to ±0.09 °C, depending on the sensor type and range. In Source Mode, simulated thermoelectric signals are applied to instruments such as indicators and DAQs to validate performance, with accuracies as tight as ±0.06 °C.
