Medical Device Calibration

The Medical Devices Calibration Division at the Central Electronics Centre (CEC), IIT Madras, provides precision calibration and safety testing for a wide range of biomedical and hospital equipment. These services are critical to ensuring device performance, patient safety, and compliance with international healthcare standards.

CEC’s calibration capabilities cover key clinical devices used in respiratory therapy, cardiovascular monitoring, infusion systems, neonatal care, surgical equipment, and diagnostics. All services are performed using calibrated medical analyzers and simulators and adhere to international regulatory standards, including IEC 60601 series, IEC 62353, ISO 9919, and others.

Equipment and Parameters Covered

Respiratory Equipment: Calibration and performance checks for ventilators, anesthesia machines, oxygen concentrators, nebulizers, suction pumps, insufflators, and HFOT units for parameters including gas flow, pressure (cmH₂O), and O₂ concentration.

Cardiovascular Monitoring Devices: Comprehensive calibration for patient monitors, ECG machines, apnea monitors, fetal monitors, and digital/NIBP monitors for heart rate, ECG amplitude, IBP/NIBP pressure, SpO₂, and respiration rate.

Infusion & Feeding Systems:Flow rate and volume calibration for infusion pumps, syringe pumps, PCA devices, and enteral feeding pumps in accordance with IEC 60601-2-24:2012.

Neonatal & Pediatric Equipment: Calibration of incubators, radiant warmers, and phototherapy units, including temperature measurement and irradiance levels (µW/cm²/nm), using incubator analyzers and phototherapy radiometers.

Surgical & High-Risk Equipment: Performance verification for electrosurgical units, diathermy equipment, defibrillators, and external pacemakers, including energy output, waveform validation, and timing accuracy.

Dialysis & Diagnostic Systems: Calibration of dialysis machines, conductivity meters, fetal dopplers, EEG, ECHO, OT tables, and more — with testing for flow, conductivity, and signal accuracy.

Electrical Safety Testing: Integrated testing for leakage current, insulation resistance, earth resistance, and enclosure/patient protection in compliance with IEC 60601-1 and IEC 62353 standards.
